We are a small charity supporting and enabling adults with a range of disabilities based in the centre of Stockport. As a result of the impending retirement of the present incumbent, we are looking to appoint a highly motivated and committed Finance Manager to oversee and manage the finance function of the Charity. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial activity of the Charity supported by a small team.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the preparation of regular management accounts and financial reporting incorporating analytical review and commentary. Responsibilities also include preparation of the annual budget and year-end financial statements to audit level including liaison with our auditors. Successful applicants will be at least part-qualified accountants with relevant experience.

Exceptional candidates qualified by experience will also be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS:

AAT Qualified or CCAB (Chartered, Certified, Management or Public Finance) Part Qualified or Qualified by substantial relevant experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE: 

Minimum of three years’ experience of financial management, preferably at a senior level within the not-for-profit sector. Minimum one year’s experience of managing staff.

PERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES:

Self-motivated, committed, attention to detail, ability to appreciate wider Charity opportunities/challenges. Effective verbal and written communication skills and particularly able to convey financial results/issues to non-finance stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. Collaborative team worker, pro-active and analytical.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Ability to identify, implement and maintain effective financial controls and systems. Advanced spreadsheet skills. Preparation of regular management accounts, budget variance analysis and commentary that is timely, relevant and accurate for distribution to the Trustees, Chief Executive and service managers. Preparation of annual statutory account to audit level and effective liaison with the Charity auditors. Reconciliation of bank balances and nominal ledger balances. Preparation and presentation of annual budgets and subsequent phasing for management accounts purposes. Cash flow forecasting and monitoring. Supervision and support of a small team of finance colleagues responsible for personal ledgers, sales invoicing, cheque/cash receipts and payments.
